During surgery, the stomach contents are reduced. This means that you can eat less than before the surgery and that you will feel saturated more quickly. It is important that you quickly recognize the feeling of fullness so that you do not take more food than desired to achieve weight loss and to prevent you from nausea. You learn to recognize the feeling of satiety by eating slowly, chewing well and waiting between each bite before taking the next bite. You should take more time to eat a hot meal.
It is important that you get all the necessary food for a complete intake every day. The advice is to divide this over 6 eating moments per day. To optimize the effect of the surgery, it is important that you apply the following advice:
- Take time for a meal (30 to 45 minutes)
- Do not get distracted while eating
- Chew a bite at least 30 times before swallowing, wait a few minutes after each bite
- Stop eating and drinking as soon as you feel full
- Do not drink half an hour before and after a meal, drink also not during the meal
- Drink at least one and a half liters per day (including dairy products) but do not drink carbonated drinks
